At weekend driving home from Tollymore on country roads, dash board light kept coming on for motorised step, though step was tucked in underneath the door. Stopped a few times to press step button. Step got new motor when we bought it. If we ignore it will it cause problems?

Check the button that is down by the step, when the step is closed in it presses a button, (similar to the one that is on car door for interior light)
When the step is out it releases the button which puts on the light on dash,
Check wire connections going onto the switch also,

I had to clean and grease my one last weekend

Button is only €2 from local motor factors,
