Just a thought - What of creating a rating scale for rest places along our motorways - even if it is 10 minutes drive of the main route?

Information is not available on the WWW - a good draw and information section for our site?

What is important for a pitstop - stretch the legs - let the dog out etc?

Facilities / Pictures / Locations / Reviews / Opening Hours etc?

I wonder if in Ireland, we stay on motorways long enough to need a comfort break? But I have no canine friends, and like to get off Mways asap. No scenery as such. Nick.

But I'd rather stop off in a small town for one night en route. There again the canine problem arises. Our dog only goes to the toilet on command. Can go for more than twenty four hours.

As afar as I know Franco that's what the services are for, resting, trucks park there all the time,

We stayed at one of the applegreens on our way to cork, if you are going to do it stay away from the refrigerated units as they run their motors overnight.

OK, thanks for that. I noticed trucks parked up, but just seeing this thread make me wonder re camper vans. Normally I go to small towns/campsites/suitable parking areas, but there might be occasions when pulling over in say Applegreen could be an option in the future.
Regards
Franco

Yes looks a lovely one seems different to the others down south though they are usually set further off motorway (less noise)
Stopped in here briefly yesterday in CAR and thinking it looked a great place inside and over in another section Truck Stop and wondering about it for motorhomes. Though don't they say for safety reasons, (quick getaway if someone breaks in) you shouldn't stop overnight in them.
We were on our way back from Derry to Dublin, noticed lots of lay-bys to stop for a break, some screened by trees, when you are in MH many lay-bys seem to height barriers.

I'd say a busy m'way service area would be safer than a secluded layby. I've used Autoroute/m'way services many times without any hassle at all, just use your common sense and, as anywhere, buy something local as a coutesy if you stay overnight.
