France - Seeking Recommendations on the West Coast

Hi Everyone,

With the ferry booked (Rosslare Cherbourg), I am looking for recommendations for campsites in France on the West Coast - stayed at Camping les Ecureuils La Bernerie en Retz last year and the kids loved it.

Ideally within walking or cycling of the beach
Campsite with (all important) Waterslides and a good pool
Within cycling distance of a town

Thank you!

Allan

Tons and tons of options .... As stated earlier....... Get the ACSI book and you will see just what's on offer.
Sites are extremely well laid out, lots of facilities and more stuff than you can shake a stick at.
France is superb for any thing motorhoming and you won't be disappointed, just go and enjoy.

Try 'La Yole', St. Jean de Monts, good pool, bar etc, handy to the beach, plenty of towns to visit and great staff. We've been there 3 times and find it a great mix of pitches so you can ask to be in a lively or quiet area. It has large pitches so you're never on top of others. Good luck, enjoy where ever you go . :)

If it's west coast then Hourtin Plage is your best spot, water park now on site, it's a very large site but we've returned here few times, small street with bars restaurants and one of the best beaches you'll find

Home today from France, after Fuel strike and bad weather. We did have good weather last week till Sun.Checked yr.no every day for long range weather forecast in various areas around Francd and spent most of time on west coast.
In Bois deJoly last week, pool has slides,ACSI €17 I think, (2 adults, MH,,elec, showers) + bit ot tourist tax, don't know how much for children or dogs.
Wifi not great. Next door is a huge well laid out Aire, €8.50 per night, and my Aires book, few years old said for €3 you can use pool and showers in Bois Joly (St Jean des Monts) .
Also stayed in Asserac (near Penestin) Port Mahe another ACSI site, indoor pool, an outdoor smaller pool finishing off work on it but new this year super outdoor pool and a great double twist slide, it is also on a beach, but one of these tides that go out for miles and any wind, it is used by kite surfers but has kite surfing facilities on site. It has the most amazing building called Maison de l'Eau...best sanitary area I have ever seen.

Ile de Re spent 10 days in Les Varennesa, indoor and outdoor pool, but quiter site and not really got slides, small outdoor play area, and table tennis, again another new pool complex since last year, beach 10 mins walk through pine trees. Great cycling on island, bikes not allowed on the main road except to cross over.

Yelloh Village Le Lirroral in Talmont St Hilaire, another site which was brilliant for pools and for children's play area last year, even better this year, they have built a huge indoor pool area and converted the small pool into a kids indoor water play area, water slides but not into a pool, big tipping bucket.
Slides out in main pool.

We did go as far as Le Paradis in St Leon sur Vezere, 300 kms from Ile de Re for 2 nights!!! (Lovely restaurant, great pool etc forecast for wet weather, that is when we went back to Talmont St Hilaire, but stopped in Brantome (north of Perigeaux, lovely town. Rained all day but seem to have a play area, pool and an artificial beach on river (went up by 500mm overnight and scary fast flowing.
In 28 days we were in 4 Aires and 6 campsites.
