Handbrake shoes

Hi all, I am about to replace the handbrake shoes and pads in my 2004 Ducato. I have removed the disc/housing and I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the shoes without pulling off the hub, It seems a bit tricky where they are behind the flange of the hub. I imagine pulling off the hub is a fairly major job . Any advice or tips would be much appreciated. Sime.

Why are you changing the handbrake shoes.
They should have no wear as they should only be applied when the vehicle is stopped, they're not like the ones on a drum only system where they work as both stopping and parking brakes.

I always thought the handbrake pads were the same as footbrake, but only used when handbrake applied, not using the front brakes. I made a right ballix of that!

Yes I would agree they don't wear, but they had gone hard and shiny and apparently not up to standard. anyway I've replaced them , and I had to remove the hub but it wasn't too difficult once I got a 46mm socket . Job done, and test passed. Thank you for your reply
