Are the buses from the car-park at Mt St Michel free , I have not been here since the causway was removed and want to visit this Easter , would it be best to stay at the Aire and cycle to car-park or stay at the free Aire in Pontorson and park in carpark at the Mont for the day and then stay in Pontorson

Hi last year we parked at car park, one for motorhomes maybe 100 there and still plenty of room bus free and runs all the time go early .I think 25 euro all in takes a day.
Not sure if you can stay overnight think you can someone else may know.

we didn't stay at the aire, we stayed at the campsite in the village itself, Camping Haliotis (Pontorson, France) , and found it quite good. the campsite backs onto the river and seemingly you can cycle the whole way to mont st Michel if that's your thing(4km). I think the aire was at the supermarket/filling station, quite close to the campsite, and didn't seem that appealing tbh.

the buses are free, and very well organised, and the car parks are massive. be prepared for a lot of people, even in June the streets were bulging, but it cleared the higher you went up. it's well worth the trek to the top.

P.S. during the week, the town/village of Ponterson is quite quiet, with most of the eating places closing quite early.

also there's a lot of building work going on just before the buses, with hotel after hotel going up, with your usual franchised eating places in tandem.

Hi we stayed at http://www.camping-auxpommiers.com which is about 4km form the Mont. The camp site has a small pool which was very welcome at the end of day's touring. As the camp-site takes the ACSI camping card we stayed there rather than the aires site which is almost opposite the camp site. There are some restaurants and a small shops beside the camp site. Enjoy your trip.

If you have an ACSI discount card then you might consider camping aux pommiers in Beauvoir which is close to the large new car parks. There is also a large modern aire across the road but it is nearly as expensive as the campsite which has a pool etc. You can also buy tickets on site for the church on the summit of the mont. This saves queuing as it is busy.

They were still working on the causeway when we visited last June. We cycled out to the mont on the evening we arrived, but I did see notices indicating that you could not cycle across the causeway during the day. If you cycle the river path there are plenty of cycle stands at the large car parks where you can hop on the bus across the causeway.

What date you heading over Eirebus ?
We are going over in March, probably around St.Patricks day (Flexi ticket on Stena) for a month or so..... May be a good 1st night stop for us.

that's exactly what we did, before blasting for Italy we wanted somewhere to stop to take in that we were on holiday before the driving really began

Im heading over on the 18 th Mar with Irish Ferries and will head straight to the Mont ,the campsites dont open until the 25 th Mar so Aires are only option I think ,the Aire in Pontorson is not great but it is safe (site not open )and only a flat 9km cycle to the Mont or stay in the car-park for the day and overnight in the Aire
