I think you need your Drivers Licence too. Also good to give it a good hard drive before presenting it for the Test and remove hub caps if they are covering the wheel Nuts/ Studs.

Whoever drives the motorhome into the test centre must produce their licence to show that they are entitled to drive it. In other words, if your licence doesn't cover you then you just get a friend with the correct licence to drive it in for you. What a load of crap, another assole sitting down somewhere making up senseless rules just to pass the time until 5 o'clock. Also the test is not necessarly valid for 12 months. If you are due for testing on Feb 1st but you are doing repairs/work on the camper and finally get it ready and tested on May 1st then the cert will only be valid for 9 months and you will be due for retest on Feb 1st next year. Another rip off. 🇧🇭 🇧🇭 🇧🇭

I brought my last van to the test centre near Volvo on the millenium bypass in Naas. I am due to bring our present van for test this year and will return there. Staff very helpful. No problems. Take out unnecessary weighty items/ leave water tanks empty/ remove gas bottles/correct inflation in tyres/lights set for driving in Ireland/all seat belts visible..
Same details as for presenting car for test. (They do not check gas appliances so bottles just an unnecessary additional weight)

A diesel driven easy can produce a bit of smoke if given a bit of welly, often seen when one pulls away hard from a junction or traffic lights. Smoke is one of the things checked so to have it running clean for the test give it a good drive on the way to the test. I give mine a lash down the local 120kph dual carriageway on the limit (copy at your own risk) or if there is a hill work it hard up the hill.

If your vehicle has rear disc brakes with the parking brake incorporated as a small drum brake, sometimes referred to as a 'top hat' arrangement, as fitted to Ducato Maxi chassis and AlKo chassis LIKE THIS , drive for a half mile or so with the parking brake slightly on, this will clear any rust on the drum which can cause poor hand brake performance which may result in a 'fail'.
DO NOT PULL ON THE HANDBRAKE WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEED AS THIS CAN CAUSE INTERNAL DAMAGE (IT'S NOT DESIGNED TO WORK AS AN EMERGENCY BRAKE FOR STOPPING THE VEHICLE IT'S A PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING AWAY ONCE STOPPED), JUST DRIVE OFF WITH IT PARTIALLY ENGAGED.

well thats probably the truth but that being said if your not covered to drive it to the test center on your license you most certainly aren't covered to do anywhere else i would think.

€97 happy days

My local Garage is taking our Motorhome for the test Tomorrow and he told me to leave a cheque for €111 in it when he is collecting it, I told him it was €93.16 Like Hymer Tom and Mad Max was charged, when I added 23% to the Price on Baguette's post yesterday it came to 94.** and now Micklad was charged €97

Now I am more confused than ever.

Unless Mick's is a Motor caravans with three or more axles Test fee including CRW = €94.58 plus VAT @ 23%

But when you add vat to that it comes to €116.3334

Defiantly more confused?

Yes Tom ,
€75.74 +23% =€93.16 and that don't make any sense either.

That's good enough for me, Paddy! I will be leaving a cheque for €93.16 in the Motorhome and we will see how much they charged when it comes back.

Prompted by this discussion thread MI have written to the RSA pointing out that under Section 4 of S.I. No. 9/1973 PRICES AND CHARGES (TAX-INCLUSIVE STATEMENTS) ORDER 1973 their pricing display is illegal.

Section 4 says:
Where, for the purposes of or in connection with the rendering of a service by a person, the charge for the service is stated orally by the person or by a servant or agent of the person or is stated in any catalogue or advertisement or in a notice or other document (other than an invoice), the charge so stated shall be stated as a single amount inclusive of any charge made by the person for any tax payable in respect of the service.

The above regulation applies to all transactions and services provided to retail customers or put another way the use of base price plus tax is only legal when the transaction is between persons accountable for VAT, i.e. businesses.
This means the RSA should be publishing the price for motor caravan testing, a service purchased by 'non accountable persons', as a tax inclusive figure in the same way as it publishes the price for the NCT test.

We await their reply.

I would love to know Tom, he collected it yesterday and I expected to find it in the yard when I got home from work yesterday. I waited until 8pm to phone him and he told me he forgot to collect it and didn't know if it passed and he was taking up another today and he would collect it. At this stage I still don't know.

Thanks Guys for your best wishes

Update on what they charged......

I met no one but found the Invoice on the Passenger seat, and they charged €93.62, I left them a cheque for €93.16, according to the Invoice they said I paid them €93.11 and owe them 51 cent. It is no big deal but you would think they would be all charge the same.

When I said it to Paddy who took it for the test that I couldn't figure out how the Vat was charged, He thought that the vat should be 13.5% on Labour and I would be inclined to agree with him as that is what I charge for contract work that I do.

Good stuff Mick  The test centre thought our van was registered as a commercial also and said they wouldn't know until they submit the test results to the RSA, I knew it was registered as a Motorhome because there was over 12 months test on it when we got it. but it appears many are registered as Commercials. Also it is odd that the prices are a little different .

A huge amount of motor caravans are listed as N1 category vehicles on their 'log books' which means Goods Vehicle up to 3,500kg GVW.
