While in Dublin

At the weekend we were in Dublin for a bit of Christmas shopping and went to get the bus from the hotel to Grafton street, not a problem bus stop across the road from the hotel, looked it up and the fare is €2.75 each so waited five minutes and three busses turn up, tried to get on two of them and were turned away on each. Now I know some of you would think "I know him and I would turn him away!" But the reason for it was we didn't have €5.50 in coins only a €5 euro note and the correct odds.

The buses do no take notes off you, you must have a pocket full of change to use it!

Needless to say we paid for a taxi each way, more comfortable and right to were we wanted to go.

I just can't get it, councils want to be Ecco friendly and encourage people to use public transport to keep traffic from town/city centres but have stupid rules which prevent you from doing this. I know our southern brethren may not have a problem with having a pocket full of euro coins as its your primary currency but us northerners don't always have euros as cash machines only dispense notes!

John, pity you didn't have a Seniors Pass as there's no problem. Hurry up and get it.

I don't know if it is because I normally use credit card or hibernating but standing in a queue for small item and watching the till, "Rounding up" is new to me, not giving change of 1 and 2 cents (though I have been saving them in jam jar for years. Though I used to wonder why things were 99 cent.
They haven't actually increased the price of item.still use 5c.

You don't have to accept rounding, it's not compulsory. I always insist on my one or two cents in change and will not move from the till until they give it to me. Some shops are not happy and probably think I'm a bit of a nutter, but what they think is their problem, not mine. :-)
