Parking At Narin Beach, Co. Donegal

This topic should probably be included under the wild camping section, but I think more people check the general motorhome chat. I see that Narin beach is included as a Wild Camping stop on the Usermap. I live beside this beach and there was a conversation amoung locals in a nearby pub about motorhomes parked there recently. They made a point of including me in this conversation as I recently bought a campervan. There are a few caravan parks in the area and as it's a small community, most locals would prefer if the motorhome owners would avail of these. This is just because locals would like to see a local business getting trade at a time when most business owners are finding things tough. In general though, the locals don't mind the motorhomes parked at the beach. There is one major bone of contention though. Could anyone who is planning on staying here please park facing towards or facing away from the beach and not parallel to it. This was why the conversation about motorhomes parked there started in the local pub in the first place. On a recent weekend, five motorhomes parked parallel to the beach which meant each vehicle was taking up 3 or 4 car parking spaces each. This is a blue flag beach and even in bad weather some locals like to walk on it. If possible maybe one of the administrators could include this with the information on the Usermap. On a totally different point, the local pub I mentioned is called The Tavern and if anyone is staying in the area, I can really recommend it for food. You might even find me sitting at the end of the bar nearest the roaring fire.

Marty, thanks for the info, that's the sort of local knowledge we need. I am sure our map admin "Tom" will read this and update the usermap accordingly. Please keep us informed of anything else.

Thanks Marty .... good to know.....

We would usually stay at Pat Boyles place when we go.

We used to have fun days with small sand yachts there a couple of times a year. Maybe you have seen us.

Thanks Marty, Excellent Info. Now updated on the user map.

P.s We tend to stay at Campsites a lot as the wife is not to keen on wild Camping but is warming to the idea :D . I notice that Narrin Caravan & Camping Park is in also the village.

If you have any Info for it ?. Thanks.

Hi hymer524. I'm still fairly new to the whole campervan experience. My wife and I have just spent a week touring down the west coast of Ireland. During this week we stayed in caravan parks and found them very good. I expected that we would use wild camping spots, but I've now come to the conclusion that I'll use campsites when they're available. I tend to go to a lot of concerts, etc. so I'm sure a lot of the time I'll be staying in places where there isn't a campsite available. The Usermap seems brilliant and I hope to be refering to it on a regular basis. Narin Caravan & Camping Park is Patrick Boyle's Campsite that Mark refers to in the previous post. Unfortunately, because I live beside it, I'm unlikely to ever stay there. As a result I can't give a review of the facilities, maybe Mark would be better placed to do that. I also know the owner, Patrick, so I don't want to be accused of giving a bias review. What I can say is that the site is also situated on Narin beach and within walking distance of a pub. The site has a coffee shop/ice cream parlour at the entrance. The site is also adjacent to the local golf club. There is another campsite a few miles from Narin beach. It's Tramore Caravan & Camping Park. This site is much quieter, as is Tramore beach beside it. For anyone that knows me, I could be accused of even greater bias by reviewing it. It's just a case of whatever type of site you're looking for.

And hi Mark. Yes, I've seen the sand yachts on Narin beach. The sand yachts and kite surfing seem to have become more popular on Tramore beach though. Probably because Tramore beach is quieter. The next time your staying in Narin, if you see (or hear) a Harley Davidson distrubing the tranquil peace and quiet and being a general nuisance around the beach or outside The Tavern pub, make sure to say hi!

Hi Marty. thanks for the reply. Glad you had a good time, we have being to Tramore Beach a few years ago and what a place the most fantastic Beach We have ever seen, just pure sand I could not even find a stone to throw for the dog to play with. €20 all in at that time, that was very good for a campsite.
But I see from their website they don't Allow dogs any more. However If a Campsite was that near to a Wild Camping Spot like Narin Is we would choose the Campsite.
I do believe in Supporting Campsites Although some are Quite expensive and over the top as to price.

LOL... I must say I think that is the first time I have heard or seen Boyles and "beautiful place " in the same sentence...

Not sure I would agree...

Ouch seems a little harsh ....... the campsite its self is grand but I was actually referring to Narin & Portnoo :D

I called into Tramore campsite while I was in the area to say hello...........talk about nice & remote.. great place for a quiet get away although the lowered suspension on my bus didnt seem to enjoy the drive as much as I did

Easter camping

Hi all,
Recently stayed at this amazing camping facility in Narin.
As the owners are very involved in the area and provide jobs to local teens by running a cafe/ shop and also the camping grounds nothing was too much hassle for them.
As we had a few mishaps the owner was there within minutes of his busy schedule as we stayed at Easter and there shop is only open in the seasonal period. I couldn Fault it one bit.
As I’m sure you are all aware that safety to our children is a main priority the caravan site is very safe and we can let the children roam free.
I cannot say the same for the local pub as the woman there is an awful person who shushes people while there and only allows certain people to talk while trad music plays. I would recommend the pub in rosebeg though. Joes great spot for all your needs.
Just thought I would let everyone know of the lovely place Narin and great time we had at Boyle’s. Recommend a visit soon.!
