The reason I posted what I saw in Howth was to make people aware of what some people do. If this guy has done it in Howth in daylight he sees nothing wrong with it. Also I wanted to give people that may be lobbying Councils etc. the "heads up" on what that could be said to them.
The suggestion to report to the Garda , well I am afraid you do not know much about life in the South, and why draw attention to ourselves by reporting to the Harbour Master?

I have to agree with you Joe about telling the Garda,i don't think they would be too interested, and most likely unable to do anything about it.But im sure if passers by saw it they would report it to the Harbour master.

The harbour master who put the barrier up is a bit of a " Do as I say " kind of person . A family who have mooring rights for their small boat going back many generations was told that " he didn't care how long you have this right .....there's a new Sheriff in town . There is parking spaces at Balscadden for free but you'd have to walk back to the harbour area 15 minute walk . If you like sea fishing its on the opposite side of the road . The view from there is fantastic and fantastic walks .

Hi folks, just passed through Howth, and counted 13 campers on lower pier. Very tranquil there. (Barriers are still in place).

Bit of confusion........... so to clear it up.

We can still park at Howth - just the bottom of the middle pier is closed off.

Advice if you care to heed it - 'too many vans? park somewhere else - don't abuse it.'

I think the reasons are in this topic, fishermen having no access, too many motorhomes, motorhomers emptying their cassette over the wall, motorhomers staying for months.

Whatever the reasons, it's been done, it's of no real loss to me, I was never a lover of staying in Howth, I don't particularly like parking in car parks other than to stop for a short time.

But there are plenty who love Howth and there seems to be plenty still using it. I don't think your protest of not using it anymore will make one bit of difference to anything other than leave room for someone else, but I understand your reasons. :-) - I'll not be near it again either, so really we are giving them what they want :)

We stayed in Howth on Friday night and last night. there was about 20 motor homes in total. We ate in two restaurants in Howth and also went to a few coffee shops and bars. It is a pity that you can't get to the top of the pier but we got a good spot further down the pier . Just a shame that some people spoil it for others.

Just to help anyone that's still not sure, I drove down around Howth Harbour this morning, I have some pictures and a map below. Any height barriers (yellow on the map) are 2.1m.

There was about 5-10 motorhomes down there this morning. Hope it helps.
