@Ally Here is another topic which could do with a bit of consolidation there must be at least 6 topics dealing with french Tolls then you have Ireland, Spain, and Portugal
you could probably put them under Tolls and then subhead them different Countries

When planning a route We always use the sat nav then look at the route options usually 2 some times 3 we pick one then do it again with tolls accepted and check the time often there's a time / mileage saving using tolls but not always,Then we make a final route choice. Sometimes toll rds aren't so much more expensive if you save time less engine hrs less fuel used and saves a lot of speed bumps and roundabouts + speeding fines
That's pretty much what I do, with the exception that I also add in if the Holiday is at the end of the drive I go tolls and use ATMB. but if the drive is part of the holiday then I wander along.
