The short answer is I don't know. But clearly not many were prior to 2012. So why would we expect 2012 to be any different with respect to exports? (That's just me thinking and typing.) The only new factor in 2012 was the introduction of the CRW test. I can't see that many if any owners could have suddenly thought of an export sale as a way of offloading. Any buyer in the new country would have to undergo a similar test.

So I would be inclined to so say that while there may have been some exports but I'd doubt that the numbers involved were significant. But maybe I'm missing something.

There are a huge amount of motorhomes around the country that to be honest lie idle I know I pass at least five on regular journeys that have not been moved in over a year! Cause I check every time I pass. I have often thought of popping in and asking why they are just there not used.
Pity as there are some lovely old ones that have been lovingly looked after! :-/ >_<

I would sell it to the Devil if he gave me enough for it!
Ours was imported from Germany in 2007 and sold to the couple that we bought it from. we bought it in September 2010 at a very discounted price, the same model and year are still advertised in France and Germany for more than we payed for it. Many people that had to sell around the time we bought got a terrible roasting!

There are some idle van alright. But many that look idle are actually active i.e. have valid road tax. Many owners do not use their van in winter and some use their vans as little as 2/3 weeks a year. In any event, what we are talking about here are active vans and 1446 vans that were taxed in 2011 were not re-taxed in 2012. What we did see in 2012 was a massive increase in inactive vans. Were they exported, scrapped, or just parked up at the back of the house and put up on donedeal. But I would suspect that a good number were beyond economic repair.

The 2013 figures will be interesting because they will give an indication as what happened these 1446 vans or more specifically their owners. A significant increase would suggest that either a) many of those owners repaired their van passed the CRW and put it back on the road OR b) that they or new motorhome owners bought new (as in new to them) vans.

Remember those 1446 owners were active. Now no doubt some of them will have decided that it. But the interesting question is how many will get back in?

I would say the majority of the missing vans were taken off the road as there were some in an awful state prior to the CWT test and totally uneconimic to repair

They all probably ended up in a Salvage Yard somewhere.

Don't forget a number of them could have come north which will show in the figures as missing
