I pressed the button on it last night with no problem, Jack! €340 for nearly three weeks but they did charge over €6 extra for paying by card, I used a visa Debit which I thought was free.

Pay the £6 and use VISA because if anything goes wrong you have a better chance of getting your money back

a departure in early March and returning in late May

I have thought of going at this time of year what is the weather like and where do you go cant do it in 2014 though

We only did the 28 Feb departure once and we were heading for Spain. In France in early March it can be very cold. On the way down through France we had frost on the overnight stops. Water taps on some of the aires frozen up and not operable. Campsites that are open are few and far between. We also encountered high winds in the Languadoc.

But once we got to Barcelona and further south the weather was great - happy days from then on through the south of Spain / Portugal . We visited Barcelona, Valencia, La Manga, Granada, Malaga, Ronda, Seville, Tarifa, Gibralter, Portugal and lots of places in between, and then back north.

I think it is a great time to go to Spain/Portugal because you don't get that searing heat that you find in July time. Very warm and pleasant for us Irish white skinned guys :)

We spent some time in France on the way back in late May when the weather was much better although they do get rain there!! :)

Remember I was over in early March last year and we had 6 feet of snow on the return trip through Cherbourg.

I think there will not be much difference eventually between them and Celtic. The difference bring you get further down France if that's what's more convenient for you.

Yeah Pat I think at the end of the day Crltic might be the best bet and stay overnight somewhere. Rory has always been so understanding and helpful to me. I think I would rather drive the extra miles and go with a Celtic. Remember Craic members get the extra discount and at the end of the day the savings might be very small.

I agree Jack! But you were tempted, weren't you Jack. weren't you?
I have travelled to France with Celtic, Irish ferries and Brittany ferries and I would put Celtic and Irish ferries Joint winners and I wont comment on Brittany.

It's hard to say no to the sort of prices that LD have been offering, but when they go to the usual levels it will be down to which route suits best for every travellers needs. The onward route to Spain doesn't suit me for what I do and there isn't much in it for the other two ports so it will come down to personal preference which for me is Celtic Link

Yes John, you don't get an offer like that to often,so next time its back to celtic link,i don't think it harmed too much.L D lines prices have now gone up in line with the other 2 company's

Yeah guys I know what you are saying and I was tempted and I admit that. I tried to book and the thing crashed every time on my Apple computer. I've decided to go with celtic and drive the difference in miles although the other would have been less driving.

I agree Taylor, We have been to France on at least 6 different carrier's over the years and money does talk. Cheapest ever with LDlines this year all charges and bunks inc £292. Further into france this year (suits us as we were going down anyway) saving £130 on diesel. Happy days.

I wonder will we ever see it again, but i must admit it is getting cheaper,i remember paying irish ferries over 1000e for car and caravan. Then came LD lines which became celtic link.maybe when they sold out to celtic they were not allowed to operate out of ireland for a few years.

Missed the cheap fares, :-| . To be honest, I was really tempted but, Mrs H. wasn"t happy to be on a "basic" boat for 22 hours, must admit ,I wouldn"t look forward to that. So, for us it"s back to plan A, Dublin-Cherbourg on IF. saves us a long drive this side and gets in at a good time, the extra cost is worth it for that and the fuel saved. Had great service from Celtic and Rory is a top bloke, hope he"ll let us back on in the future O-). Remember, the nights get shorter after Saturday, soon be spring  .

Haven't heard anything from anyone Pat. All I know I had a look and there's very little difference in price . I'm working out diesel costs etc and will decide which way I'll go. I tried to book when the fares were cheap and couldn't. I don't like that kinda thing. I'll probably end up with Celtic as I think they are the best at the end of the day.

But it is a 21hr crossing, Celtic is only 17hr I hope it is calm as I don't like Ferries in rough seas.

You guys talking about the ferry is stressing me no end! I HATE boats but loved France so much last year am going on the long boat this year! I know it will be worth it but it better be calm! I have HAD to get a glass of red to calm my nerves before bed after reading all this boat stuff!

We like the boat and try to make it part of the holiday. I love being at sea in any kid of boat but I have to admit I am not immune to a bit of sea sickness. However, herself has sea legs a Rear Admiral would be proud of.

2012, sick as a dog coming home from France with Celtic.
2013 sick as a dog going out to France with Irish Ferries. (took travelling tablets, no use)
2014 sick as a dog thinking about it.

It's got to the stage where it's worth more to us than it is in money, but it has made the journey quite a number of times. Can't wait to hear reports on ld lines and hopefully before we book, but to be honest Celtic link are hard to beat.
