Here we go again. The gearbox i picked up from Cardiff is bu*****d. Won't go into 1st or 2nd and rasping when turned. The guy i got it from says to return it and he'll fix it I dont believe he will be able to. It was bought from a breaker Ive been through this last time. This particular box cannot be fixed in UK or Ireland as they can't get parts. I've my eye on a recondtionned one in France. They will deliver and collect the old box, will have to try and get it before our holiday in Feb.

Ah well the joys

It's in Cannes, not sure of the delivery prices yet but let time it was about €350 plus a deposit of €350. I didn't return the last one because of the hassle but sold it to a guy on here for the 5th gear. I'm time pushed because of the holidays.

I know the return can be a pain, but if they don't get them back, it takes another one out of the system, and that's an even bigger pain down the road.

Just paid for a reconditioned gearbox coming from Holland. Least this time they are not looking the old box back. The delivery is €350.

Just picked the van up yesterday. Gearbox in and working. I could only get a MOT at Coleraine at 6pm on Friday but got it changed to Larne today. Just hope the handbrake passes as its always on the edge. Quickfit are coming to my house to fit 2 Michelin Crossclimate Camping tyres tomorrow so getting there.

Ok the gearbox is working well, just gave it a bit of thrashing on some tight hills and bends. One thing I noticed when driving at 2000 revs my speedometer used to show 65 mph and my sat nav 60mph. Now it shows 55 mpg when the sat nav shows 60mph. As the sat nav and revs correspond to what it was, I'm thinking that the gear ratio to the speedometer is for a vehicle with 15 inch wheels. I've got the old gearbox so can change it. Gave me a bit of a shock when I initially worked out the mpg as 18 at first fill. I believe it is off by about 10/11%

There are different gearing on the speedo drives, ( number of Teath) I'm told they are colour coded by year, the fix may be simply to replace the current one with the old one.
Shouldn't take more than an hour if the under tray is fitted.
