My old autotrail recommended 79psi, so that's what I put in them.

I thought someone had switched the rubber for concrete and quickly deflated them again.

I would recommend starting at 55psi and working from there.

The tyre itself should state the normal operating and maximum inflation pressure on the sidewall.

Last year I put 2 Continental Campers on the front, originals were Michelin and the sidewall at the tread had a few, very small cracks. I've had a blowout in France, inside rear thank god, and they ain't fun...
I'll be putting the same on the rear (×4) before our run to the Med this year as I'm pretty happy with the way fronts run.
Re' pressure, I put 65 in the rears and 70 in the fronts, and we run at about 5.5 ton and about 65mph on the motorways/autoroutes.

Not sure if it was mentioned before but Just a little tip to maybe save some people a few quid especially if getting 2 or 4 tyres,I have bought tyres for my work van and the family car from online tyre websites which offer free delivery and then have my local tyre shop fit them...they usually charge €10 or €15 per tyre to fit....I always try and buy whatever tyre which came with the vehicle when new so I'm guaranteed to get the exact tyre I want and at a good price.

I read that buying tyres on the internet doesn't guarantee the most recently manufactured ones. This may impact your 10 year safe tyre life if you go for the expensive CP tyres.

Good point...I checked mine that I bought online and all were approx 4 months from manufactimg date...I don't think most people would check the tyre manufacturing date to be fair and even buying from the local tyre depot you could be buying tyres that were sitting on a shelf for years.
