When we were parked in the aire at puy du fou, which have at least 500 mh parked. After a hoof around the site ,I saw very little stickers on display.
After 3 weeks of touring, Brittany, Vendeen, Loire and Normandy regions, no one stop us or asked about the lack of stickers on the windscreen.
Malcolm

So wasn't it great that the air was clean. and are you happy to have been covered for a heafty fine if it wasn't, and you didn't have the sticker, pease of mind for what less then the price of a pint.
I'm sure you and all of us would think and hope that insurance is the greatest waste of money. Until we need it :-/

That a bit harsh Sprinter.
Yes the sticker was something that I forgot to organise before we left for France, but the point that I was making, is most of the European population touring in France have not embraced the idea neither.
The next time that we heading for France there will be a sticker in situ.
Or hopefully the system will be re organised and the sticker will cover multiple countries.

Sorry I wasn't getting at you ,I didn't even consider you, not having one,I was thing along the lines that ,like you,I was looking out for them on my last French trip and only saw 2, and that was on the boat, overall I think the air quality has been good in France this year so maybe there was no need to in force the regulation,it could also be, just that the French don't give a flying f--- and are hoping that this regulation will go the same way as the Breathalyzer one.( I still carry them in with the warning triangle and the vests )
So that's why I say for the price of a pint,I'm happier with.

Why? The only cost a few Euro and they're supposed to be permanently fixed.
There is obviously a good reason why they're designed to self-destruct if an attempt is made to remove one.
[/quote]

So I don't have to look at it for the next 50 weeks. Laminating worked a treat and I have put it away until next year. No one checked anyway and very few vehicles displayed one (most were on hire cars ).

The German one is pretty common, not sure if its because its being enforced or just people are more compliant and the stickers are easily bought at filling stations etc?

We've been in a few countries and many more cities throughout Europe. I don't have one, never been asked for one, and have never even seen one. I did intend to get one but never got round to it. To me its the same as the hype that went on about breathalysers in France, the world would have you believe you could get executed for not having them. Now look. Stress not, as long as you have a tongue, you'll survive.

I don't have the language skills to argue the toss with Herr Polizist or Monsieur Gendarme if the occasion should arise. So I've got mine for the sake of the few Euro they cost. Can't put a price on a hassle-free life and peace of mind.

Ordered ours for Doris yesterday, she came in as a 3.

From the official site, cost a grand total of 4.21 euro.

Today we got an e-mail with a replica sticker with our registration on, saying we can use this till the proper one comes by post.

Have driven across France numerous times in our car as recently as July, never been stopped and never been asked for one, but for the sake of 4.21 euro, its a no brainer.

Nope, one off application, lasts for as long as you have the vehicle. The only time we saw the Crit'Air number on a motorway gantry was near Grenoble coming back from Skiing.

yes, but be aware if you skirt places like the Paris Periphique ( ring road) or skirt around Grenoble a lot of the roads come under the restriction, having said that our estate car is a 4 and i think we were very naughty during ski season, but i am still alive!!!!!!

this needs a bit more investigation.
Are you supposed to park outside the cities then make your way in by train/bus if you want to visit? I will have to google it again.

For the time being don't think emissions, thing of the number you receive for the Vehicle, based on the information you provide ,if that number is greater or equal to the number shown, you can't travel trough the area , without the chance of getting in to trouble.
And all of this is only based on the air conditions at the time.
Is that any help.

It’s not just on the information you provide. They go by year of manufacture mainly. Anything up to 2005 could be 2006 is category 4 anything up to 09 I think, is category 3. Etc etc. once you send them your registration cert they have the year of manufacture and that’s what they base it on.

It's based on NOx emissions , the figure VW were fixing in their diesel cars not CO2 like our tax figures ,if you are in an area where your number is banned you can't drive even if you drove in yesterday legally in theory they can even close down motorways if the NOx emissions are above the figures , this would hit older trucks first aren't the bureaucrat's brilliant 😵😵😵😵

Really gone off France as a touring destination to be honest.... No fun if you cant even drive in many areas depending on the day???!!!. It's certainly not geared for any of us with old vans ( Mines a 1999 ). Will bypass it altogether next time when we use The Santander Ferry to Spain.....Better weather there anyway.

I know the London LEZ is based on the vehicle year but the French and German seem to be based on the actual emissions.

My MH is a 2005 model and based on the Certificate of Conformity, which I sent with my applications, I received a 3 Crit'Air and a 4 Umweltplakette both of which indicate a Euro 4 emissions.
Euro 4 is acceptable to LEZ but the year takes precedence, so its' outside the M25 for me :-/

Our old van can’t even get a sticker, they don’t issue them for vehicles as old as ours.
Been in France quite a lot. Will I go there again ?...... hell yes !......
It’s all a pile of bureaucratic nonsense that 95% of the French ignore.
I have 2 stickers on my windscreen, a craic sticker and a MPI sticker....... they look lovely !

There was a late version of the X244 engine, the 146 bhp 2.8 JTD Power, which was announced at the end of 2004 and available as an option on LHD vehicles until the launch of the X250 engines at the end of 2006.

The Power engine had a larger variable geometry turbo, a larger intercooler and ran different software which made it more efficient. While it was never marketed as Euro 4 its emission figures apparently satisfy the criteria for Euro 4 emission stickers.

Talking about Crit’air Stickers, you would see more stickers on Tractors at the Mart in Kilmallock.
in the last week I saw more in Rosslare than all the sites we visited in France, I only saw one here in the last week. Some vans have a square sticker nothing like our one though.

There was a narrow corridor last year between France and Spain that you could avoid the emission regulations, Liam. I don’t know if that is still the case.

Download the Green-Zones app, put in your vehicle details and press map and it will show you all the areas in europe where you may go "green", where you may not go "red" and where there may be future restrictions "orange". As the owner of a 1995 camper I check this regularly, up to recently Paris was the only area in France where I was'nt permitted to enter. In the last week that has changed considerably. I hope this will help, best of luck.

@Flipperdipper
I don't think you can get one while travelling as its posted to you, I wouldn't worry about it as there are very few French vehicles with them
