You are right about Spain, but it is the getting there that might prove interesting. I don’t know without researching wether some of the ring roads are inside, outside or form the perimeter of an area.

For instance when I put Barcelona as a destination from Cherbourg it suggests via Rennes, Nantes, Bordeaux and Toulouse. I would assume Bordeaux will not be long in joining in and Nantes is a fair size.

It would be unfortunate to fall foul of the system for the sake of 5 euros.

Yes Spain is on down the road and yes drink is very cheap The Merconda supermarkets do some really good wines for under €2 and you can even get a liter for 0.68€ lol. Diesel is cheaper and toll roads are cheaper plus less roundabouts , BUT no where near the amount of aires that France has, along the coast aires are €10 plus . You dont get to just pop into most aires like France and just service ie dump gray and black. Pros and cons for both
We have the crit air sticker, only a couple of euro and you dont need to renew it year on year

We had our first foray into Spain this year. Burgos, Leon, Santiago, Ribadesella, San sebastion and a few others. Loved the mercadonna supermarkets. Great fresh food, etc.

We are heading that direction in April/May. So don’t expect too many problems with Aires. By all accounts the Spanish have cottoned onto the idea of providing Aires and the numbers being added to the ‘all the aires’ Is growing very rapidly.

April and May for sure Spain and Portugal normally has the weather compared to France for sure. The weather is still half decent from Valencia down though its set to drop here a bit next week and more cloudy. Home in a couple of weeks which will be a sharp shock to the system.

That’s what we are hoping for. We were in Girona early in June. 36 c was not our cup of tea. The ensuing heatwave lasted a few weeks. I think even Ireland got a bit of warmth. We retreated into the French Pyrenees. Places like Luchon we’re still 29c. When it eased we hit the Atlantic side. Hopefully going early next year will be more to our liking. Mind you we will now probably hit a cold spell. !

I expect most of the European countries will follow France and introduce their own sticker. If they all do there will not be any space on the windscreen to stick them on. Might have to resort to a system where you slip the sticker into a sleeve on the window when in the relevant country

It is worth having a look at this page,

https://www.crit-air.fr/en/inf…zones.html

The scheme is expanding quite quickly and without warning to those not in the immediate areas. Interesting that the Vendee region appeared in October 2017. The area could now, in the event of a spike in pollution, be subject to a reduction in speed of 20kph and can also be applied to specific roads in the prefecture such as the A83 and A87. Up until now it has generally been relevant to cities and large towns which can be circumvented. It will be interesting to see how this will pan out in practice.

Are we getting to the stage that theses clean air stickers are a must have?
Secondly are any other parts of Europe thinking of following a similar scheme?

My understanding is that if you plan to enter any of the cities listed you must have the badge displayed. As Davy has pointed out that list is growing as we predicted It is unclear (to me) if that includes ring roads (peripherique). There are currently no toll charges on ring roads so I assume they may not be added to the zones in question. We don't go into too many of the cities in the van but do use the ring roads. We bought the sticker for the first time in 2017 as it looked like we would eventually need it anyway.

Are these tax stickers required to simply drive on a ring road around a city or are they required to just enter a city? We tend to drive around big cities and using ring roads rather than entering them.
There appears to be little clarity about this.

If you see my previous post I also mention this. I am assuming they are not required for ring roads as they are also toll free. As it is France I got a certificate anyway. It is easy to get and not expensive.

Hi Mark, must have paged past your comments, sorry, will find link somehere when I read back through all the comments, I take it there is not one overall tax sticker that covers everywhere? again, there doesn't seem to much clarity, as I see on other forums there is a lot of confusion regarding this issue.
Regards

If you click on to https://www.crit-air.fr/en/inf…zones.html and then click on to the places in red under ( Environmental zones in France ) then scroll down this will bring you to a map showing the area covered by the restriction .

This page is worth looking at.

https://www.crit-air.fr/nc/en/…-zpad.html

It may be the case that main arterial roads in th Vendee could be subject to restriction. The A83 and A87 which are roads many of us use heading south or towards the coast. The scheme is advancing very rapidly now. Click on the link marked future environmental zones and you will find the list has expanded from 4 cities last year to 25 towns and zones.

I was about to apply for my French air quality sticker and noticed that my Irish registration certificate showed my co2 emissions as 999g/km when it is 199g/km. I have raised a query with revenue to see what I need to do to get this corrected. Has anyone else had this problem.

Only if you plan on traveling to France.

If you are traveling to France and may visit one of the cities/ zones listed in the link below then the answer is Yes.
If you can avoid the zones then you don't need the sticker but for the sake of a few euro it is worth having as you don't need to worry about entering a zone by accident.

I haven’t been following this in detail, just gave my husband the link, he did it online yesterday and they have acknowledged it.
Whatever sticker comes in the post does that cover all those areas shown on map.

Many other European Countries also have zones and they are being extended all the time it's difficult to drive thru France without entering a zone there is a green zones app available

As this thread is entitled "French clean air stickers" my answer was in relation that.

I sent offfor mine Tuesday night 27/03/18 and this morning got an email with invoice and proof of applying forcertificate in case I’m stopped while in France and it stated that cert is on its way

No hassle and very quick response. I wouldn’t worry about applying for one. Very easy

I ordered and got my Yellow 2 sticker a while back and looking at the official website they have been reduced in price to €3.11 plus postage.
Its an easy process once you get your head around the size of scan required by their website. 270KB
I have a small program called Fast Image Resizer and it was very handy for reducing the scan to the correct size.
