I'm thinking about heading down to Carlingford this weekend If I can get work sorted, as for paying £10 for the pleasure it doesn't bother me in the slightest for a nice parking area with a few bits & bobs to do, namely Indian restaurant & bar etc.. If more paces around the country made such places available whether it be council or private run it would show s great return in local businesses Id say... At least with a barrier/gate etc it keeps it safe, secure & also keeps our traveling friends out.... If I don't get down this weekend I will deff be there in the very near future...

I also stay at cheap small campsites when touring when I can find them normally every 2nd or 3rd night just to empty & charge batteries etc, I have no problem paying a few quid for a site but not being ripped of as 1 tried to do a few years back in England, tried to charge me 45quid for 1 night in my T4 converted van I proceeded to show them how well reversed of their site in quick fashion...

Very disheartening. :(

On Carlingford Marina's Facebooke page: https://www.facebook.com/CarlingfordMarinaOnline

Motorhomers asking do they have EHU

People asking can they book

Caravanners asking can they stay

All the questions that will require this area to have planning permission for a campsite and which will either ruin it for Motorhomers or close it completely.

Example:

Galway Docks had EHU, it was stopped, remove the EHU points and it is now back to LEGAL Motorhome Parking.

Perhaps they would value some advice from MHC on what an aire is. They could then have a 'sticky' on their Facebook page outlining their modus operandi.

Looking at Allys post re Carlingford it is obvious that some motorhomers are looking for hook up especially in the winter and I would think if electricity is available for a couple of euros then it would be used by most using the facility. The answer is to have choice and availability if needed and only charged if used.

Completely disagree. But we are allowed to disagree.

If you want Hook up go to a campsite, if EHU is there for parking then it should be to service a Motorhome only. 1 KW hour to charge batteries.

For the reasons I have already stated previously.

A valid point has been made by Jamie about the cost involved in installing hook up points. This cost will need to be recoverd from the end user.

Having heard many many Motorhomers say things like ;

£10 /€10 a night is plenty
I do not think we should have to pay for campsite facilities when we don't need them.
I only need somewhere that park and empty my waste.

I wonder where are these people are now and why they are not posting here.

I would hate to see carlingford Marina go through the expense of adding hookup and charging for it only to discovery a lot either expect it in the €10 price or don't visit because "it is too expensive for what it is"

I met Johnathan last week and he is a nic guy. He deserves this to do well as he has taken the initiative to develop it. I only hope he gets it right.

Carlingford sounds great without ehu keep it simple and more places like this might spring up around the country as electric is not cheap to install

Totally agree with Maurice, dont need it, so dont want to have to pay for it.

As a side issue, who/where do you pay the €10

Electriciry not needed if it is to be used as an Aires facility,Possibly one emergengy point for someone with medical needs.
I was in tollymore forest park one year and could not believe the greed of some people when they get the chance to get something for free, this caravan owner was plugged in to the post beside him but he had an awning up with an extension lead coming from another point and two infrared heaters going in his awning.
No there was not anyone camping in the awning just a table and chairs sitting empty.

I know what you mean Norman.
If it is 16amp supply it will get hammered with electric water and space heaters.
If it is 6amp they will complain that it is sh1t
