Thanks lads. Yeah, slowly getting over it now. I know they say self praise is no praise :D but I'd always be proud of the fact that I think I'm a clever fella.... This just wasn't a clever move I'm afraid, so annoying. Next problem is what to do with the 250kgs (or more) of 6meter long semi rolled up awning.... 🇧🇭

I'm not sure this tangled mess is save able so I may just leave it if George is agreeable. Maybe I'll have it picked up again at some point in the future.

On that note, does anyone know of a firm who repairs or reconditions awnings. I seem to remember this is a Thule.

Sorry to hear you are having problems like that.
I find you learn something every time you take the Motorhome out for the first few weeks (maybe months) so don't let it get to you. We all have problems when getting started.

Thanks Mark. Yep, that's what I figured tbh. 8-)

We'll get it picked up, fixed, remounted and we'll move on. I suppose had I opened the door a split second later I'd have taken the full weight of it across the top of the noggin. Coulda been worse than the graze as it passed me. I'd hate to be laid out on the pitch with a panicking 8 year old running around in the dark looking for help. All good. And yes the BULMERS are very very drinky......

Sh1t, you could do with a few Bulmers after that, John!

By the way you came across the Annual Anglesborough Tractor Run, I bet you probably stressed some of them too. I think the run is for charity.

If there is a problem with storage of the awning PM me and I can collect it and store it for you as I am only about 10 miles from the site.

Pat, thank you so much. That's a really incredible offer which I may very well take you up on actually. I'll speak with George tomorrow and depending on whether he has any tools and indeed a tractor or a loader or anything (I'm kind of assuming he's a farmer!) as, due to it's weight, it really needs to be lifted or suspended if I've any chance of getting it back on the unit.

If not, I think there's a guy in Tipperary somewhere that sells motorhomes (is it Pat Horan?) and he may do service also so he might take the job on.... Anyway, thanks again, the doors shut now, the weather is outside, the young fella is in bed, I'm watching a movie and supping apples... Tomorrow is another day! :-)

Re the tractor run. All the lads were more than mannerly with their driving skills and they were much more willing and able to catch muck and ditch on their inside than I was. I find if ya try to keep the panicking to a minimum there's always actually more road than everyone thinks as long as tempers don't flare and manners are kept intact - I like country lads, I'm one meself. There's rarely stuff that beats us, including small roads.

Actually fallen and swinging branches were a bigger problem on that road than the tractors today.

I don't think he has a farm, I was at his place once when he was building the site and He had a track machine alright, His brother in law is just over the road and he dose a lot of heavy engineering and would have lifting gear. Anyway if you are stuck I can nip over with the Tractor and loader, I will Pm you my phone Number.

Whippy sorry to hear of your troubles. FYI Pat Horans are in the village of Aglish in North Tipp 53.03642,-8.077645. I had some work done by them and they are superb.

Hope you can make the NYE meet.

Any word on John (Whippy)?

I haven't seen anything from him over the last few days, just wondering how they're adventure is going? Did they make it to the NYE meet?

Hey folks, just back (yesterday) to KZ and have all been having a marathon sleep since.

We are very sorry to have missed the events up in Athlone but for a myriad of reasons from very ill MIL's, to (related) teary homesick wife, to sister in laws crashing on the way to hospital for visits, to Santy toys from Smyrhs never working, to the realisation that region 2 PS3 games won't work on region 3 consoles (Santy again) and an attempted break in at grannies while she was in hospital and we were supposed to be there but preferred the adventure of staying in the RV instead, plus many more that I can't think of, all of which needed to be rectified before our flight home we didn't make it up that far. I really would have loved to meet you all for the craic but we defo will soon.

Thankfully our MH problems ended with our silly awning mistake and our battery issues and the unit performed absolutely brilliantly until I put her to bed, full of LPG and green, no red, no green, no red, no.... Oh I can't remember 8-) diesel in her shed in Slane all tanks emptied and sanitized on Jan 2nd. before catching the air coach back to cork to fly out the next morning. It was a sharp learning curve for me but I (&we) loved every minute of it and thank you all for the advice, good wishes & help and indeed offers of help from you all here, there defo seems to be a great brotherhood built up around this site. I've wanted one of these yokes for years and am delighted we finally took the plunge. I can't think of a better family activity that we've ever done and there's been lots.

Anyway, the main reason for buying the bus was to keep my two young sons in touch with Ireland while living so far away from home so, we'll be home again and out on the roads at midterm and again for the whole summer with much more flexibility to attend meets be they official or unofficial.

Thanks very much folks.

You certainly had an eventful time Whippy but I'm glad it ended well for you. There's no place like this country and you are wise to encourage your sons to keep in touch with it.
