I also gave up on the radio and now use my phone connected with usb or Bluetooth works well so long as your not in the Welsh hills where nothing works, but works well in Spain and I can select whichever channel I wish. Spanish radio is ok but when the presenters start rabbiting in Spanish it grates with me

I have given up on both FM and DAB the reception is crap on all of them. I just stream from Spotify.

Albert I feel your pain for the radio in Spain, there are so many stations and one minute its nice music then slabbering for the next hour, just dont listen to the sports when they are commentating on the football, they will have a heart attack the way they get on

I also just stream from Spotify - although mostly using downloaded. As I changed my old radio to an android touch screen one with CarPlay I can also control the radio with my voice using Siri.

In terms of what I did for my motorhome recently - I changed the tap in the kitchen as the micro switch broke. I will also be changing the one in the shower/bathroom as it is messing about too. I could probably fix the micro switch but both taps are in it from new I would say which is over 25 years so due an upgrade anyway!

I got the van booked in to have cab painted when I come back from holidays. Its 20 years old and showing its age. The paint is peeling off the bonnet and its full of stonechips.

I fitted a new wing mounted aerial, the old one had a splint in the top support, definitely better reception in the yard, we will see on the road.
@heisenberg. Mick you definitely shamed me into it, so I fitted the airbags, Did you get the weight up grade sorted, was there much of a rigmarole?.

Looking good there Martin. Didn't mean to shame anyone ) Noticed improved handling?
Yes, got the up-plating sorted. I got great help & advice from Dee in Van Weight Engineering who ultimately certified the work and of course dealing with dept of transport in Shannon was fun. One piece of advice for anyone doing this; don't leave it to the last moment and followup with Shannon when you submit the paperwork. End result is that we have 475kg extra payload so no fear of not being road worthy and plenty capacity now for haulin home wine n stuff

Thought so . Follow up question....why would I have been told that certain undercarriages would up the price of air suspension if as in your photographs they're on the axels ?

I have no idea what thats about, most rear kits fit directly replacing the bump stops, which can be on the top of the leafspring mountings, or like the Sprinter on the axle beside the leaf spring, on some if you have wishbone and spring they can go inside the spring, or MacPherson strut ( mostly on the front) they can go on top of the strut, that would be a complete new strut, on indispension type ( like on a caravan/trailer chassis) they are often fitted along the arm instead of on the cross beam ( axle)
That said ,several of the UK based company's would not quote for a Sprinter at all, ( that was even before the big B)
My kit was € 400 in March 2021 from

Because Alko suspensions use torsion bars and not leaf nor coil springs, hence the axle does not “float”, this means there is no option to add the airbag between the body and the axle.
To airbag assist an alko axle the airbags must be mounted on the extremity of the torsion bar tube, acting on the swing arm. This utilises various brackets and plates to make room for the airbag itself and is a more complex kit. Once fitted it acts the same way by applying pressure directly on the load and removing it from the springs (torsion bars in the alko case).

Some engineers say that it can increase needle bearing wear on the alko end tubes as the load is transferred to the outside of the tube and removing it from the twisting of the torsion bar……

An AL-KO chassis, which has trailing link suspension, would require special brackets not required on an axle with leaf spring suspension.

Got Matilda ready and legal, for her French trip, Monday night.
Touch and go all week, I got Cellulitis on my foot, from a bite last Sunday, a day in the hospital, intravenous antibiotics, and pills every 6 hours since, thankfully it is nearly fully cleared, so away tomorrow night.

Fitted a new one Awning winder, I broke the old one, only the third time I used it. Didn't know you had to ingauges and lock the front leg before winding it all the way in. Had to do a little mod, because there was two little plastic nibs where the screws are showing,so drilled them out and fitted two extra short screws.

Got the MH back today, I'm really pleased with it. Got bonnet, wing and drivers door and wheels painted.The body ceramic coated and polished, acrylic windows polished and decals renewed. A guy Peter Burns from Banbridge did it and pointed out bits that he could sort rather out than renew.

The photos don't do it justice, its like new

He reckons about 3 years then he could give it a top up. It really has brightened it up. One side had yellowed quite a lot but he was able to bring it back a bit. The old decals were peeling and looking rough, the new ones set it off. He said to wash it with a neutral shampoo

Also I asked the guy to let me know axle weights, 1586 front 1216 middle and he said he couldn't get the rear as it was over 2 ton. I think there was something wrong with his scales as its usually less than middle axle. I took it to MOT totally empty.

The problem with the handbrake, if it's of the drum in disc type (see photo below) is that it is in fact only a 'Parking Brake' and not intended for bringing the vehicle to a halt.
The second problem is that as it is only always used to hold the vehicle stationary and there is no rotation with the brake shoes being in contact with the drum, there is no cleaning effect on its surface, which only adds to its inability to provide a good 'stopping' effect during the dynamic stopping ability test on a rolling road.
When taking my motorhome for the test I drive a short distance with the parking brake lightly applied, this cleans off any corrosion or other debris before the test.
