All of the above, lots of jobs to do, some complicated, some handy, I did a major alteration to the fuel pump a few months ago and I think the either the timing or pump adjustment is little out now, could do with a new fridge, bathroom door lock/knob is broken, need to find a way to mount a new TV, going to convert the "u" longe to a permanent bed, I located a set of range rover seats that I am going to engineer into it, 4 blinds need attention, a poly window is cracked, rubber in gas tank connector is leaking, and a few more bits and pieces

Admire the bravery of screwing the frame into the side wall but would this affect the remainder of the 10-yr water ingress warranty?

Finally added a second solar panel today, it's been in the shed for about six months.

 

 

 


Connected in parallel so will work as one 100W panel closed or two 100W open

Cleaned the roof while I was up there too as you can see from the pictures it needed it.

Had to put on pretty much every bit of electrical to try to test them as the batteries are full to the brim. So at 4pm today with decent sun with the fridge on full power, fan for the heater on full power all the lights on and four phones plugged in to charge.

This is what I was getting with one panel and two.

 

 


Will have another test at 12 tomorrow if it's sunny enough.

Couple of cheap zinc plated drawer runners from screwfix, galvanized angle brackets and stainless steel countersunk bolts. I was looking at getting marine grade industrial drawer runners but they were going to cost €200 when I saw the ones in screwfix for a tenner it was a no brainer, even if I have to replace them every year I'll still get 20 years out of them before they'd cost more than the other ones.

I carry kayaks on the roof from time to time so couldn't take up too much space with panels have room for another set behind these if I want or need them on the future and can still use the roof rack.

Thanks for that Stephan you will have to get out the hairdryer,toaster and microwave if you go to sunnier climes.😂
Keep an eye on what you get , when we have real Irish weather.
You might give the runners a spray with something like a silicone coating everytime you close the system in order to beat the 10 years.😁

I have plenty of bearing grease for the bikes so will put some of that on regularly.

I've had the first panel for about 3 years now it's supposed to be a 90watt panel but I've regularly had it giving me 105W when up high in the French alps in July. The combination of loads of sun and cool breezes seem to be what it likes. Only get about 80W-85W out of it when down out of the hills and into the heat with the same amount of sun.
The problem with the heat though is that the compressor fridge wants to run all the time so the one panel was only just covering that.

The best time for it seems to be March, we spent 3 weeks in Wales one Easter with the one panel and a 110ah battery and didn't have to get hook up once in the three weeks. The combination of decent enough sun and cool enough that the fridge doesn't need to be going all the time seems to be a winner.

Funnily enough when I went back to place I got the first panel to buy the same size second panel they were now saying it was a 100W panel.

I ran all the appliances, cleaned out the fresh water tank, although it was spotless. Dusted off the solar panels and the roof, a lot handier than washing gunk and grime off. So now I’m ready to roll. Can’t wait.

have you considered running some fans to draw off some heat from the rear of the fridge.?

Yep a Victron Mppt charge controller with a Bluetooth dongle. Brilliant bit of kit for keeping track of how your panels and battery are doing.

Fixed my fridge not working on 12v. Was intermittent and eventually kept blowing. Mechanic suggested putting a 30 amp fuse in instead of he 25 and I have tested it and it seems to be behaving itself now.

Got a Cadac from Amazon today but have yet to try it out.

Replacing the aerial on my LHD van but have had to order a lead extension as it is not long enough as the wire was likely for a RHD van.

Most fridges 12 volt element are 160 watts, I stand corrected on this but generally it’s about 10 watt less than the 230 volt one. Anyway 160 watts pure resistive load at 12 volts is approximately 13.33 amps. I can’t see how changing from 25 to 30 amp fuse is making the difference. That type of load suggests a 300 to 360 watt element. That’s huge. I’d be careful of that

I'd get a new Mechanic that's a dangerous answer to an electrical problem. what would he suggest if the 30 blows .
Please find the problem before you have an even greater one .

Could it be a poor connection in the 12V switch?
I think the power runs through the 12V switch itself, if it's a bad contact it may cause intermittent connections, and maybe power surges caused the fuse to blow?

I was dubious of it myself but this mechanic said he does this on a regular basis. 🤔. I told him I suspected it was the switch as it used to be very intermittent and took a few tries in the past to get the 12v fridge light to come on. I’ll have another chat with him....

Probably should move this to the technical section but as I suspect the fridge switch is he issue as it was intermittent before I was just going to order a new one. Doesn’t like that easy to remove though as all of the gas switches etc are part of the same panel piece. Does it just prize out and you slide a new one in? There are no wires attached to the back of it?

It’s easy enough to do, the existing wires in the fridge attach to the switch with slide on connectors:

 


Make sure you put them on to the correct terminals.

The switch comes out through the front, squeeze it too and bottom to release the catches.

John the air bags look good how did you find fitting I thought they where pretty straight forward when fitting the gauges panel be carefull cutting into the dash there are wires behind where your cutting I used one of those vibrating cutters from Lidl’s also I had to do a small bit of grinding on the panel to get it to fit right not a lot mind ,I think I mentioned that I bought the split cable tidy that the pipes and wires run through to the rear or the m/h just to keep everything tidy looking forward to seeing more pictures 👍

I just fitted mine also.

I removed the section of the dash to cut the required hole with a dremel.

I didn't fancy drilling any holes in the bodywork, but there are few suitable holes there already.

There was plenty of space to run wires and pipes in the ducting under the drivers seat and footwell.
