Cobh is fantastic, stayed last Thur and Fri night. 21st / 22nd July.
There was no basket on the fresh water tap then. I filled with a hose.
My first time there ,at least 20 of the 30 spaces were used.
Very good and not expensive Gluten Free Chinese restaurant for all you Coeliac's

30 parking spaces now available
Services now available in Cobh,
Credit to the Phoenix Motorhome club, Cobh town council and all involved
***Note you cannot get a hose onto tap as there is a basket covering the tap, so a bucket or funnel is needed
I think the basket should be on the cassette rinsing tap to stop people using it for drinking water, I'll have a look and talk to the Local Council Exec Engineer.
The drinking water tap is also supposed to have a thread for connecting a hose.
It's a real learning curve for the local council but are certainly open to listening, if not quite understanding first time round.
When all is done and dusted Cobh will be a model, complete with supporting bye-laws, to be copied by others.

In almost every French aire with modern facilities the fresh drinking water tap is the one that is protected by a U shaped bar to prevent a cassette spout from coming into contact with the outlet. The cassette rinsing tap is unprotected.
If I am reading your post correctly ( and I may have read it wrongly) then the cassette spout will still be able to foul the fresh drinking supply.
In reading your explanation both taps could be used for rinsing cassettes.
Any other views as this is important if we are to tout Cobh as best practice.

Davy, there is a problem with the installation, it's sooooo difficult to get what is best practice across to those who have never seen it, despite numerous photos which clearly demonstrate what is required.
But do not despair, we are working with very well intentioned people and it will end up as required.

Good practice to carry hygienic wipes. Never take it as read in France that the tap with a cage on is drinking water (potable) and that the French are hygienic .I was on the aire at St -Valery- sur - somme and parked near to the services and it was hilarious to watch the French (and Germans) trying to get the cassette spout under the tap with the cage on . There were 2 taps one on each side and they used both .Some like me had Dettol wipes(which i use on every tap i use when in France ) but other didn't bother .Luckily as i was only there one night and had filled with water and emptied cassette previous to arriving here i did not need the facilities. As i have done quite a bit of touring in France its quite a regular occurrence hence the wipes .

Just to add another twist, I have often seen continentals connecting to the cassette rinsing tap to fill their fresh water tank.
Reason why, the drinking water tap may be charged, usually €2 for 100 ltrs, but the cassette rinse tap may be free.

We see it all the time in France.
There is no point in saying anything as they just shrug and saw they know... LOL

Cllr. Claire Cullinane has published the Draft Bye-laws for the motorhome parking area on her facebook page CLICK HERE
Anyone wishing to make observations on the Draft Bye-Laws should submit same in writing to Páraig Lynch, Municipal District Officer, Cork County Council, Carrig House, Cobh, Co. Cork before 5 p.m. on Friday 30 September, 2016.
Having read the draft my only comment is that while the €10 charge (see paragraph eight) is reasonable during the high season a lesser charge would be appropriate in the off season.
A submission has been made that mention of the specific €10 fixed price should be replaced by wording which would support a variable charge dependant on season.
Please add to the weight of the above opinion by making additional submissions of the same nature.
Apart from the pricing policy the rest of the regulations are bang on target having regard to the norm in Europe.
Cork plates but i didn't want to show them on the pic.
25 of 30 spaces empty at the time we were there.

There's another '01 Kon-Tiki that's parked there constantly, or at least it's there every week when I take my folks to Cobh for a coffee. I'm amazed the Gardai haven't noticed it and done something about it considering there's a 48hr rule in that parking area.
Maybe it's belonged to the superintendent!

Their are times when I think any vehicle parked like that should be lifted and brought to the pound and the charged for the towing the parking and then add the fine.
Back home earlier this evening after spending two nights in Cobh. First time visiting the new facility. Excellent place, beautiful weather, there were 17 motorhomes there monday night and 7 last night, a pleasure to go to these places and spend a bit of money locally as a thank you for the free overnight parking.
