Great exchange of views from all sides.
I think we all come with our own experiences to this topic, we all have different requirements and expectations.
Some travel with dogs and some can't stand to hear them bark.
No one thing will suit everyone.
I do think that one thing is clear whatever our personal requirements or our preferences one thing is clear....when people are polite, cheerful and calm everyone gets along.
Smiles go along way! :D
Regardless of what I want I think it is good to take others into consideration. We all have different needs just like we all have different MH's.
As my Nan says it costs nothing to be nice and do it with a smile.

Very well said Siobhan, I totally agree every ones opinion should be respected. :-)

Jamie I have to applaud your, in my mind, forward thinking. It's a pity you were not a bit closer as that's the only thing stopping me from being at your site. If only other site owners could do the same.

Add Galway City to that list.

I was thinking the same thing John! But I think we should fight for this one, we have always said in the past that that we should take our money to where we are welcome but these places are getting harder and harder to find.

This is where we need to be careful. If everyone goes to the areas where we are deemed to be welcome then the overcrowding problems occurs again leaving the local community annoyed due to overcrowded parking places and congested beauty spots,we can certainly keep the business population happy but we also need to consider others who use these facilities.

Yeah thank God for the town I live in. I have spoken to many of the local businesses and they agree they get business form the Mh's that park up at the lookout. There are rarely more than two or three parked up! I go there every Saturday (on my way to take my daughter to her piano lesson) ad I take note. Dungarvan is a great little town and the lookout is ideal as it is only a little walk into town.

This is exactly what I have been saying about other places like Howth, Carlingford Etc. We could ruin it for ourselves by overcrowding.

We are relative newcomers to MH, but previously had a caravan, a mobile home and tent camped. I have to say that overall we have found campsites offer great facilities for all three, but some campsite owners do need to segment their customers according to need. We often found in our tent days that we payed the same as a caravan or MH, and now that we are in a MH we are paying the same as a caravan. Yet each of the three tend to use sites differently. It would be good to see this reflected in pricing.

We tend to use a mix of campsites, Aires, car parks and wild camping now. Regarding the latter there is a big difference between one or two MHs parked up for a night beside a beach and 10 taking over the only parking spaces in a village, and staying for an entire long weekend which is not very wild. Just ask yourself if you would like strangers in a campervan to park outside your house for three days at a go? We have never had a problem when we did the sensible thing.

We have a responsibility to ensure we are welcome and do not hog what are public spaces. I can understand how locals in some areas feel distraught when their town, village or local viewpoint is taken over for an entire weekend or longer. Dunmore East is just one big MH park most weekends in Summer for example and many locals rightly feel they have been invaded. In contrast many smaller villages nearby have spots that can and do accommodate one or two MHs with ease.

I'm curious about the pricing structure comment why would you charge different prices for a tent, a caravan and a motorhome?
I have my own views but I am curious.

There have been a number of articles/letters over the last few weeks in the Oban Times on this topic and the problems being encountered by local folk. The attached article is in this weeks OT. I thought members might be interested in some local feedback

It's all greed really i think, some campsites are no better than a field for ridicules prices, considering we pay tax ,insurance ,doe,we use same space as a car also contribute to the economy of places we park, shopping, eating, drinking etc,Ireland needs to catch up with the rest of Europe, suit the councillors better to do their real jobs and not helping the campsites owners to continue the monopoly of ripping off the tourist trade,
