Not a great deal of waiting for anyone who paid deposit or in full this year as I think they have to re book before end of this year. Could be wrong though

I cancelled this years trip and lost the deposit but I am not stuck with any Ferry company who can charge what they want, no regrets losing the money

I think the way its going to go is €900 for 10/14 days not going to happen,
For 6/8 weeks still a RIP off but easier to take,
one guy I was talking to, his idea is take the van to Europe end of May , move it around different camping parks and have his whole family take it in turns to fly out and use it, untill September.
6 berth with a big driveway awning.

We forfeited our deposit too Dave & choose to retry when all settles down, but knowing ferry companies and their tactics there will be little in the way of offers and they’ll continue to deploy their tactics of milking every penny out of the Irish/Anywhere routes.
Couple that to complete inaction and policy deficit by an utter gombeen complacent government and it leaves us the punter paying over the odds.
Isn’t good old rip-of-Ireland truly alive and well, serving the vested interests as always?

Just checked the current COVID advice on IF website. It does say that re bookings using vouchers must be complete by 31 Dec 2020. Now need to find out if that applies to ALL vouchers.

That's right. My wife's cousin caught covid in that same resort. Skiing resorts is how it all took off in Europe. I don't think the Austrians will go for it, and maybe not the French either.

In my opinion anyone that has a deposit presently held by a ferry company might as well forget about it, by the time they get around to using it the prices will have escalated so much the deposit will not even balance the price difference .
I hope i am wrong but feel happy to make this prediction now anyway.

Landbridge from Irish Ferries and Stena don’t seem to be available yet for 2021. Based on 2020 fares and avoiding weekend travel, Stena was around £510/£540 for both trips via Cairnryan/Eurotunnel whereas Irish Ferries was around €610/€640 for both trips using Holyhead/ Eurotunnel or Dover/Calais ferry.

Direct routes are very significantly more expensive in 2021. Taking into account that I have two €100 vouchers it might be best to wait until Landbridge is available and hope that IF accept the vouchers on that.

Anyway I won’t book anything yet.


Irish Ferries still haven’t announced fares up to end of May or landbridge fares.

Stena have announced landbridge fares which are much cheaper than direct route.

Stena avoiding July or August are about £550 return avoiding weekends and £570 including weekends. July/Aug are about £580 to £620 for non weekend/weekend. These are via Holyhead or Belfast via Eurotunnel up to 8m and two people.

While I have been a fan of the landbridge one thing to bear in mind is that they do not offer flexi, you need to be precise on which crossings you want, last summer I only booked it one way as I was unsure of when I would be coming back.

Another thing to keep in mind is if travelling with pets now that Brexit has happened it may be more beaurocratic and expensive doing landbridge due to blood tests etc, much simpler going direct.

Another thing to consider if you are using the land bridge, whether north or south, is what happens if you have to bring back a few bottles/cases of vino for research purposes. :-)

Regarding our trip to Ireland , I am afraid that in view of Both Irish Ferries and Britanny Ferries new Farès ( over double price from our 2020 cost ...) will décide to give up for now , éven if trips were permîted. We are very sorry about that.

We ´ll try and get our déposit back.

Strong lesson to be learned with Ferry operators, nothing less than a refund is acceptable in the instances you cant travel due to Ferry operator f**k up or government restrictions. If they have your, and many other peoples, money and get to set future prices, they will screw you.

Slightly off topic, apologies, I had a Brittany ferry booked for end of October 2020, which I has postponed til Oct 21 as Brittany stated that you can only postpone by a max of one year. I hear they have now stated that you can postpone by 2 years so I’m waiting for their 2022 dates to be released which should be next month.
On the off chance I can get a winter away.
