The 'note' you speak of, was it the threatening notice 'Important Information' or an actual parking fine or notice to prosecute.
If it was one of the latter maybe you would be interested in not paying it and we could organise a crowd fund to challenge it when it comes before the court.
IT was a flyer put under the windscreen. Same as that posted earlier - titled IMPORTANT INFORMATION. Saying that it was illegal to park temporary dwellings in 5 different areas of Galway City and also that overnight parking in any public car carpark within Galway city is prohibited

Paper never refused ink.
I've not heard of anyone actually being issued with a prosecution for ignoring the threats made in the notice or by the official handing them out.
Perhaps Galway City Council actually know such a prosecution against the owner of a motorhome would not succeed in a court if challenged.
Why go to Galway when we all know that they don't want us and probably never will.
The hotel rooms are booked out with staycation they certainly don't need or want us.
I was out in salthill last Sunday week and counted 10 campervans parked along the prom where ever second lampost carriers a campervan no parking sign I for one don't understand why people chose to go where they are not wanted
Had not visited Galway for a few years so didn't know it was no longer legal to park on the Cathedral parking area. Dark when we arrived so did not see signs for "no campers". 8am fine notice left on our window when I went to the meter to pay for the day on a lovely Sunday morning. Have written to the council. Used to love the Harbour area. Felt safe alone. Thanks for all info on this site. Have just joined.

What was the offence mentioned on the notice. Would you post a photo of it here with your personal details covered over (redacted).

Says it all, shortage of hotel rooms and foreign holiday bookings up 10% on pre covid figures.
What it doesn't mention is the loss of revenue from those tourists who can bring their own room with them, but are turned away (not wanted) https://connachttribune.ie/str…or-galway/
Im embarrassed to say I'm from Galway at this stage,
Talk about a shower of f***ing eejits,
And to stay in the campsite in salthill......check a recent charlie & me youtube video to see the extorsion ......its simply greed
“its simply greed“ is it really?,
if you want to keep the monopoly on camping sites, where else are you going to get the Money for the Brown Envelopes.?
When I go out in my Motorhome I have never been short of places to stop and stay at, some free and some at a reasonable price.
I will never be ripped off in order to spend my hard earned money in the location I am staying in.
Galway’s loss will always be someone else’s gain.

Indeed, it's Galway's loss big time...
After a great weekend in Castleblaney we spent at least £300 in various shops, boutiqus, restaurants and bars. The welcome was very evident with pleasant chats with many locals, they really did appreciate the custom.
Just think what the total sum Castleblaney gained with our combined spend over just two nights, not just the gain of one campsite owner, but many small businesses ....
2015 Study carried out by the German Economic Institute for Tourism (DWIF) at the University of Munich
The study which covered 15 European countries included the following findings.
• A total turnover of 18.3 billion euros was generated by tourist camping in the surveyed countries.
• 64 million overnight stays outside of campsites.
• 48 million day trips without overnight stays
• Overnight stays outside of campsites and day trips generated a turnover of 4.7 billion euros within host communities. Which represents over 25% of the total.
There's a mortgage available for anyone staying more than 4 weeks especially if you need electric or have dog's
So if I go and stay there with Louise in high season, in a tent it will cost us €40, in a camper or caravan it will cost us €38. If we behave like responsible parents and bring the 3 boys with us instead of leaving them to fend for themselves, in a tent it will be €53 (2+2@€45+1@€8), in a caravan it will be €48 (2+2@€40+1@€8) but in the camper it will be €62 (2@€38+3@€8), thank god we wouldn't be needing electricity @€10 or their manky showers at €1 a pop but on the bright side based on the current prices on their website, they won't charge us anything for the 2 little Jack Russels.
Just for a bit of contrast below is a copy and paste from our booking for motorhome + 2 people +ehu in Paris for 3 nights
For a stay at the Paris Maisons-Laffitte campsite in/on a Pitch** from 08/09/2023 to 11/09/2023

I'll see you in Paris on the weekend of the 22nd of September and the weekend of the 6th of October but you won't find me in Salthill Camping

Dogs are €5 each
I checked all prices on their website before posting, I was going to add €10 for the two Jack Russells but it seems that dogs are currently free per their website

I wonder do they need to charge those prices to cover the cost of greasing the palms of council so they will continue their policy of not providing alternative parking such as is available in Cobh.

The way I would see that Colin is that they can charge as much as they like but will only get it if people are fool enough to pay it.
I will not be ripped off by any site but am always happy to pay a fair price for a fair site.
