I’m gonna show mine this picture... it gives me crap, and it lives in a warm dry shed - it has no idea the pain and suffering of its cousins! I’ll bet if you could get past the rubble that thing would just drive out!!

She is a bit older than your Girl Killiand, that is a 2A from the sixties, actually they were there from the late fifties until about 1971, the last of them had The headlights on the wings but still had the dash in the middle.

I've always preferred the look of the inboard headlights as opposed to those mounted out on the wings.

When we went yo Gozo Scuba Diving in the 90ies, the car hire company used to get pickups like that from the farmers and hire them to us as dive truck's.
Some of them didn't look any better then that sad one in the shed.

You would bust a half shaft easily driving it out of there. I had a LWB IIA with a 202ci 6cyl in it. To say the driving experience was crude would be an understatement. No syncroshift so double clutching was the norm and the pedal effort required was substantial.
The vehicle had character though.

You are spot on there Huan, they liked their half shafts alright, the later series 3 had a salbury axles and wasn’t as troublesome. The lwb had a very bad lock in the steering and they were geared very low, that could be sorted by fitting a fairy overdrive which doubled the number of gears and improved the gear ratio. They were so basic, if my memory serves me right the cab heater was an extra when buying new.

Mine was an ex- airport fire tender, it had a solar roof as well, a thin sheet of alloy that sat just above the ribs, stopping too much heat from entering the cab.
It also had a manual heater installed in it from an unknown donor, it was a box that sat in the footwell with a manual fan switch. No insect screens on the front vents either.
Firewall rusted away as is common and the rear chassis members also rusted out.
Manual locking front hubs.

Models with that roof were called a safari, they usually were the 5 door version, the locking hubs were an extra and most were Manual.

The one in the video is a series 1, it is older than the series 2a in Ally's Photo., I never drove or worked on one of those, the one in the video would be one of the last of that model. Wish I had one though.

Mine was a 1968 so wouldn’t have been s1 it was a 11a. They are some primitive vehicles looking back now. Fun 20 years ago though. Someone said the halfshaft fragility was to prevent driveline damage further forward kind of a sacrificial weak link if you can describe it as that.

Tidy mounting, much better than many caravan to motorhome conversions that I have seen, I wonder what a 130 would be able to handle in terms of Bodies?

Think the Talisman was monocoque therefore no seams to leak, combine that with the Landrover it’s close to ideal

Panda. I wouldn't be surprised I'm nearly sure the guy is a plant fitter I saw him in Boggan's concrete yard in Wexford.

Jack. they put that series of Auto-Sleeper Talisman on lots of different Cab and chassis vehicles.

There is a guy that has a premises rented out beside big fans concrete alright and he has a load of old defenders in various styles. Also has a double decker bus that he brought to electric picnic a couple of years. Real party bus

I think Jack is right, looks like a conversion all right, all of those rivets on the cab roof extinction don't look original other than that it looks great

Met the owner / converter at Moat Farm campsite in 2017. He is a fitter living in Wicklow and a real Defender enthusiast. He bought the motorhome - a Talbot based Auto-sleeper and grafted the body on to the defender. It took him a long time and was a real labour of love. He has put together a very effective rig - well constructed. He told me there are a couple of other defender owners who have converted military ambulances so keep your eyes open out there they are around.

MOT center took exception to the smoke, so a good time for an engine rebuild. Rebore, oversized pistons, new bearings, seals, etc. Hope it's worth it!

There is a new defender type to be called "Grenadier" coming out of a big investment in a new manufacturing plant in Wales due to be on sale 2021.

The new Land Rover Defender for 2020 is a car, a real let down. So the Grenadier will be needed for farmers etc
