Wow they go well with nothing in them! Motorhomes that is.
Emptied the Motorhome entirely, to trade it in on Monday. Going to use it this weekend so will throw in a crate of Carlsberg and a sleeping bag just for the weekend
Did you get it Ally, how will we know it, is tweety bird on the back

Removed the Alarm Siren and Backup Battery to ascertain why not working
Never took it apart before, checked earths and wires - all working fine - so must be the unit.
I was not particularly bothered that the siren would not work as Hessy is parked in the locked drive, has an immobilizer, steering wheel locks and door locks which would deter anyone from dreaming to nick a 20+ year old M/home
Failing that - our Maltese would go bananas
So stripped the unit out and.........
Batteries had burst and corroded the whole PCB
Transistor legs and resister legs rotten through, solder joints beginning to merge, key isolator joints festered etc:
Rotten job
Went to World Bay and bought another siren for a shade over £10
Come on postie

Made a new dashboard/engine cover for my Hymer today - the previous one had suffered a lot of water damage (leaking side window - now resealed) and the plywood was de- laminating so I brought a sheet of 9mm plywood and 2mtrs of car soundproofing and made a new one. will fit it back in tomorrow.

Jack - it doesn't always come out as I plan it LOL sometimes its a complete disaster but I can turn my hand to a lot of things - can't work in confined spaces though my back won't let me so that has ruled out any engine work.

Good Job Broms
What did you use as the edging tape?
I did the same for Hessy as the previous soundproofing was shot & falling apart
So i placed a layer of soundproofing above and below the wooden piece, to ensure as quiet as possible in the cab. But i like the edging touch you did with your own
On the old one - there was lots of silicon sealant around cab to engine area which i didnt replace as i dont see the point as if there is condensation - surely the best outlet is down through the engine area and as Fibreglass, there is no rust - however condensation sticking would begin algae growth?

Re: The..... What did you do to your Motorhome today thread!
My son used to work for a duct work company and he acquired some aluminium metal tape so I used that to edge everything - there is two layers of soundproofing glued to the plywood and then edged in tape. When i took the side windows out to reseal them i brought a roll of Sikaflex butyl seal and i have laid that around the cab and the engine compartment - the reason i want it sealed is to stop any fumes coming up into the cab. As my engine was leaking a bit (hopefully when it comes back it won't be an issue) you could smell diesel fumes etc.
I am going to refit the wood/soundproofing tomorrow and I plan to install two cooling fans and wire them to fused two switches on the dash and then back to the leisure batteries - as they will be switched I can isolated them from the power anyway. Going to hard wire the reversing camera in as well this week.
Going to fit two solar panels in the next week or so (its going to be another two weeks before the engine is back) trouble is i don't know whether to fit 2 * 80w semi flexible panels or 2 * 100w glass panels - there is about ten kilos in weight difference and the cost works out about the same.
Once the panels are in and the rebuilt engine and gearbox is refitted i plan to get some miles in over the coming months. Come August will be ready to decide where I am going for the winter.

Today,I had the orange sidelights disconnected and a strip of white led lights fitted to the front of the RV, first mot on Thursday, and, apparently, they don't like orange lights to the front in NI. On the mainland it's okay to just add a white light, as far as I'm concerned on an American vehicle, you can never have too many lights or too much chrome!!!

Fitted a couple of cooling fans (in the hope that we get a long hot summer!) onto the new dashboard and wired in two remote switches from them on the dashboard itself. Just need the remanufactured engine and gearbox (safely arrived in Hungary last week) now
