Took out the rotten plywood dashboard and cut out a new one for the Hymer today - just need to get some insulation foam and thats another job done. Just the head gasket leak that I discovered yesterday to sort out now (did think it was the fuel pump leaking but thankfully its not that).

' just the head gasket leak' - you make it sound like a small job unless you are going to try some of that magic oil additive stuff ?

Going to try the magic oil stuff (K Seal) if it doesn't work then will have to get the head off in the next few weeks as I am supposed to living in the van for the summer. Was over in England in the van and was told the fuel pump was leaking - three week turn around to get it rebuilt and new timing belt etc. Trouble was I need the van to live in whilst I was in the UK and nowhere else for me an the dog to go - so came home to get the van sorted once and for all. At least cylinder head gasket is only a couple of days (isn!), hopefully it won't need skimming. Other problem is I can't do it myself anymore so its a garage job for the gasket to be changed. Will try the snake oil first though :-)

Does one need the LPG sticker for the MOT? For some reason I've lost 3 of them over the last few years. They seem to vanish from the side of the van.

No idea if it is required Jack.

I replaced mine because it wasn't neat.
Brand new van and I have been changing lots of little things that don't please me.

Started re routing the battery wireing as fitting a second battery and will only fit on the opposite sideof the van.

Might be doing more soon as off to The Motorhome Show at Shepton Mallet in the morning and there will be well over a hundred accessory stands there. Plus I can drool over the new campers there

Just back from work and as usual looked out the dressing room window at Hessy and could not believe what was on Hessy's Head. :o Leaves? (Why did they not blow off as i just pulled up) Dirt? (just washed it on Sunday and it wasn't there yesterday), SHITE? (How the Fe*k) SHITE  :o :o  🇧🇭

Initially thought it was leaves - then put ladder up and FFS >_< - Cat shite  - stuck like superglue onto the roof. 🇧🇭

A Cat definitely thought it was too high as he/she shat themselves while looking over the edge :-|.

So - Either it is the forum's ying/yang Ref: "How to you reach yours" or time now to give the roof a triple Wash, Wax, and Buff

I know how to stop a bird from sh*tting on your head :D :D :D
But a Cat

Any ideas????? :-)

I could use that too Ally as I have a tom cat that comes round to my workshop. One morning he appeared at my feet when I had just put the kettle on for a coffee when I discovered that my milk in the fridge was off so I gave it to the cat. Biggest mistake ive ever made as the dam,d thing won,t leave me now. I was looking for stuff the other day in a box and stuck my hand into cat sh*t that he had left for me as a present for giving him the milk. He now gets chased when he appears very promptly. 🇧🇭

Yip. They are more than I intended to spend. £130 delivered.
I saw what happened to Bobs mirror when we were away last year and said if I buy a ducato I will get mirror guards.

Hessy got her oil changed with new Air and Oil filters.
I got a fuel filter also - but changed the last one a year ago - so - its too early for that yet.
Thermostat next as she is running on 55 degrees all of the time >_<
But ideling = we get normal running temps :-|

Excellent value form Mr.Auto online for filters - best i could get- Cheap as chips and delivery class with returns. :alien:

Did the A4 Fuel, Air, Oil filters with Thermostat and temp sensor tomorrow - reading too low so fuel economy crap with the intelligent PCB brain tellling the engine its too cold still - more fuel please! <_<

Tried K-Seal for the leak on the engine block today but no joy - anyone know of a good garage in Mayo for an engine rebuild - don't need this I really don't :-( The leak is coming from behind the fuel pump - trouble is I can't tell if its the fuel pump or the cylinder head.

Vary satisfying when you do a job like that.

Have you heard of Silky ? It is a cutting paste for caravans and motorhomes which is slightly more abrasive than T cut.
Worth checking out as your first step.

Loved the post Flipperdipper :D

No Mark - never heard of it - where can it be purchased? Coachworks?
I used a 3M product for Powerboats etc - it leaves a Gel coating after a buff - probably PTFE.
It is good - I'll post the Trade name and got it of World bay.

I use the Autofinish range on the sides - but as it is a single coat paint on Aluminum - there is no varnish to bring back up again. So a couple of good Wax coats is Hessy's shine. Any other ideas for this type of paintwork please?

Yes - very satisfying to see the gleam on an old timer. The arms are tight as anything today with the "Wax on - Wax Off" Karate Kid moves :D

Well, I put the new air filter in today, and sadly it hasn't solved the turbo light coming on problem. So I am going to swing by the Peugeot dealer tomorrow. He told me before that it is likely to be either the air filter or the sensor (hopefully).

Anyway, fingers crossed I will get to the bottom of this tomorrow and can get the DOE done. It seems tragic with all this lovely weather we are having that I can't take it out, even only for a day trip!

Well I dropped the Hymer down to the garage today - engine rebuild job - my wallet is going to be sorely depleted after this one!!! Have a Hungarian friend who's father owns a garage in Hungary and would you believe it is cheaper to ship the engine/gearbox over to Hungary and get it rebuilt there then it is too get it done here - been quoted unto €5000 +vat for the work here and no more then €2750 for work in Hungary - lifetime warranty as well. Shipping fees are €300 return. Still can't believe this has to be done though not a happy bunny!

trouble is secondhand I could end up in the same boat as i am now - and no history to the engine. At least this way the engine, turbo, fuel pump and gearbox will come back like new. Think the turn around will be about three weeks from collection. I am heading to either Spain or possibly taking the van for a year to the US over the winter and I really don't want any problems when I am on the road so this is hopefully the best option.

Funny enough there is a company in Germany that will send it over on a RoRo ship from Liverpool or Bremerhaven I think it is - cost is €1500 each way and they arrange insurance and all the shipping paperwork etc. Insurance I think was about £300 for the twelve months. The van can be temporarily imported for 12 months without be liable for emission test etc and it stays on the original plates etc. You can load the van up with all the normal travel stuff (and its guaranteed to still be in the van when you collect it) so its ready to go when you collect it on the other side. The only problem is you (the van can stay in the US) have to leave at the six month point for two weeks and then return to carry on with the trip. After twelve months the van must either be fully imported, scrapped or exported back out of the country.

As it is likely to be just me and the dog (she has her rabies paperwork and pet passport done) I thought it would make for a brilliant adventure and as I am not getting any younger I have a huge urge to do this trip. Its either that or southern Europe my preference is for the US many because I can't speak Spanish LOL, that and the fact I love what little I have seen of the US

for anyone interested in trips further afield this is the company that arranges shipment to the USA http://www.sea-bridge.de/html/shipping.php cost is about €1700 for my Hymer B564 each way. As i only rent my home I can put everything into storage and just disappear so its a plan i hope will come off later this year - if i can get the bloody engine sorted :-)
