Hi guys, anyone know who fit tow bars on Hymers around Dublin? Bit of a dead end trying to get this sorted...Chassis of a Fiat Ducato apparently not the same as the chassis Hymer built the motorhome....

A friend of mine had a similar problem and he used a local prefabricator who made one and fitted it

If it's an Alko chassis you need a special Alko approved tow bar.
Fitted a maky uppy one will invalidate any Alko warranties associated with their product and could invalidate any insurance covering body or chassis damage in the event of an accident.
These days fitting a tow bar not approved by the vehicle manufacturer can invalidate insurance. It's all got to do with EU Regulations

Hmmm ...bike rack back on the wall, still not a valid option. I'll keep digging.

There may well be an approved towbar for you motorhome, have you tried the main dealer or maybe ebay or the like for a secondhand unit.

One we did on a motorhome recently. Towbar fitted to chassis rail extensions and quick fit scooter rack also fabricated. Built in excess of any minimum requirements. No towbar was available from the manufacturer for this motorhome.
Price for any of this work supplied on inspection/design and recommendations were required.
No certification/approval reqd by the owner on this particular job. If a single approval on any of our engineering work is required then a minimum of £950 + fees + expenses + vat for a once off use which usually renders it too expensive, hence the reason motorhome towbars with multiple EU approval are so expensive, or in many cases unavailable. (The joys of faceless EU bureaucrats who wouldn’t know if they soiled their own underpants).

Have a look at the PF Jones website. They do towbars for motorhomes.
