Hi all

Besides using silver screens, is there anyway to keep condensation off the windscreen when using the van in cold weather. :up:

I have been told Plenty of ventilation ken,..............., but that means a cold van 🇧🇭 🇧🇭

Are the silver screens external?

I got externals during the year and I have to say the 2 times we were out in coldish weather I didn't have to mop up the dash board, (happy days)

Ventilation is the only way other than silvers. Or don't put the heating on so the van is the same temperature as outside :)

I don't have any silver screens and yes the windows do gather the water, however a really good household item is the Karcher Window Vac we take it with us all the time.They are in most stores and cost between £45/£50 but well worth it as can be used at home also. :up:

Hi Taylor. Condensation can be a real bugger. We use our van throughout the winter and I think our record is around -6 (in the Mournes). I wouldn't dream of doing cold weather without the external screen cover. We take care to pack it tight with wiper blades etc and the usual elastic anchor points. This cuts out condensation on the front windscreen completely. In really cold weather we have curtains that seal off the driving compartment and this seems to help keep the inside of the cold windscreen from contact with warm, damp air.
The problem is in daylight when the outside insulating cover is removed. Condensation descends very quickly. This proves two things to me: one is the effectiveness of the insulating screen cover. And the other is, in cold weather you aren't going to see out the front windscreen anyway either through condensation or because you kept the cover in place, and so you might as well keep the damn cover on and save on heat loss.
My screen cover is the cheapest I could find online. I'm on the second one in 8 years - although I've done repairs of all sorts to keep them going. Not sure why a person would'nt use one as they also work brilliantly in hot weather.

I really think it is money well spent as the screen also keeps the van warmer in Winter & cooler in Summer . We bought one that has a fold down flap that you can see out through the mesh . This means you can keep it on if you are sitting for a few days . It only cost an extra £10 for the flap model . The website is www.silverscreens.co.uk they provide made to measure screens depending on the age & model of your van.

I never thought of using them in the sun, you learn something new every day!
Ours are internal, must try and get external ones.

Ours were a life (hangover) saver at Wickerman this year, the sun was beating down and we woke up to a nice cool van :)

I have a silver screen external cover of a 2005 Fiat Ducato for sale looking £40 for it, its not the one with the pull down middle.It may done other makes/models but I ain't sure.

The only drawbacks of the external screens are if your wild-camping and you have to move because of trouble outside the van you have to get out to take them off ,this also applies when its raining

St8rty I keep putting the socks in the jumper drawer and milk in the washing machine, it like a little maze in here but you get used to it. The sign posts come in the form of nice people in motorhomes with big grins. :up: :o

Just an FYI RE: delivery to the ROI for those interested.
A great new service is parcel motel (well its great if you live or work near a motel location). Very hand service and you can avail of Amazon's free UK shipping. He could sit on his step and we could rig up a pulley system so he could strap them on and then pull himself up.
