Good news.
Let's hope they take better advice about layout and requirements than Donaghadee did.

Good work by all involved so far.

The Campervanners have also antagonised local caravan park owners by sticking to public car parks and avoiding paying for services

When will Caravan Park owners realise we don't usually need their services, when will they try and help themselves and charge us a small fee for using their services when we really need too?

Think I will get my car serviced today, it doesn't need a service but I will give the car dealer the money as he deserves it.

Thinking with the shoe on the other foot here for a sec...

I wonder what I would do if I owned a campsite and my local town council was talking about setting up an aires down the road...

How would an aires benefit me or my community?

I pay my rates, I contribute to the community... Why is an aires a good idea?

Discuss... :-)

(I don't own or operate a campsite just in case yer wondering, just curious)

To them (Campsite owners) we're the bad guy.
To us (MH'ers), they're the bad guy....

Wheres the happy medium?

Competition is healthy, it brings more people to an area. I have a CL yet I welcome Aire's. However, if someone stops at our CL and simply wants to empty their toilet, fill up with water, charge batteries and even pop in for a shower they can do so for a small charge.
A lot of campsite owners seem to be of the opinion they have the monoply on anything to do with camping, you must stay with them or stay away from the area, I believe in paying and using a service when I need it, I don't wish to be forced into a campsite because they think I should pay them.
If that were the case I would of bought a static or a tourer, I choose not too :)

So a happy medium to me would be Camspite opwners not being so greedy and let us all work together by them providing facilities to Motorhomers for a small fee without necessarily needing to stay overnight.

Simple really.
If you want to set up camp with awning, table and chairs out etc. go to a campsite. If you just want to stop for a night or two without all the aforementioned use an Aire.

A high volume of private campsites close for the winter, do the owners think we should do the same? This is an indication that many campsite owners don't really cater for motorhomes anyway. If they were truly catering for motorhomes they would provide their services all year.
