We did our usual skiing run in February to France but had to go to a different place as Madame sold the site to a guy to build a hotel. We are currently in Spain, done 4 weeks with one to go. We've taken in Gibraltar, Ronda, Setenil, Granada and most popular resorts along the coast to Sitges where we are currently. Dont know if we will do Barcelona. The van has been behaving except I couldn't get the drivers window up. I rang recovery asking for a mechanic and they sent a tow truck with a guy who had no mechanical knowledge. Didn't use him and eventually took the motor out and have the window taped up. I only realised when I had it done there was an easier way to disconnect the glass but Iwas in a panic. Diesel is cheap around 1.25/1.29 and I'm using CC sites. Bertie McCullough has unfortunately passed away after an illness. Many many of you knew Bertie and if you didn't you were bound to have had your photograph taken by him. He was a legend on Motorhomecraic, a man that put us all to shame at many a music festival, enjoying the music, taking pictures and with his Carlsberg tankard in his hand and a big grin. I thanked Bertie publicly many times for capturing all the memories from MHC, if it hadn't of been for him so many memories would be lost. I heard many times 'here he comes with that camera again' but people quickly realised they now had the memories to look back on. "right folks gather round get your photo taken" I've known Bertie only since 2011, but Bertie and Dee have been legendary, Dee always smiling and always dancing and the most photographed Lady in the world :) I can't say Bertie and I always seen eye to eye, he could be a very stubborn and a tad cheeky man, just like myself. Let's hope it is the start of something positive!! Hi , As you are aware for the last couple of years, I have been encouraging you to make a strong case at Council meetings for a Council-run motorhome Aire (stopover facility) for Carlow town. Many Councils around the country already have official aires in place, eg. Wexford (Ferrybank), Cobh and Clonmel to name just a few. A quick Google will name many more. I was prompted to write this e-mail by last Friday’s ‘Nationwide' (18th April) report on “Barrow Valley Activities Hub”, which gave “fantastic coverage on Graiguenamanagh on Nationwide tonight! with Presenter Anne Cassin, highlighting tourism on the Carlow/Kilkenny border…" https://www.rte.ie/player/series/nationwide/SI0000001172?epguid=IH10008772-25-0043 Many people interviewed by the presenter were so positive about ‘The Hub”. In order to plan a journey/holiday price matters (to most) so why are prices not part of the information in this publication? Looking at many of the campsite's websites finding the nightly prices may still be mysterious. On finding them prices can be quite expensive eg Ferrybank Wexford €40 p/n, Renvyle Beach Galway €38 to name but two. My budget is €15,000–€20,000 absolute max, so I'm trying to find the best option within that range. A few questions: Are there any reliable models in this price range you'd recommend (or avoid)? Best places to buy in Ireland within this budget? Any must-have features or common pitfalls to watch out for? Thoughts on engine size and fuel efficiency for Irish roads? Would really appreciate any advice or recommendations. Thanks in advance! --- This should get you some helpful responses. This was in January btw, which is only mildly important as it coincided with the escalation to snow and ice warnings  you can plan a pretty picnic and all that. We planned 5 days, heading from home to the Slieve Blooms, then south through the midlands to any of the many beaches in Waterford. Arriving in stop #1 at the trailhead for the barrow eco walk, set up, chilled out, ploughed on with a 1000 piece jigsaw, and snuggled up. Was I stingy with the diesel heater? Yes. There was frost on the inside windows when we woke  but that's character building.....! Did a beautiful 5k walk, admiring the falls, and manoeuvring many a fallen tree, we arrived back had brekkie and a coffee and a bit of time later we went to leave. The van struggled to start. Don't panic. Cold + glow plugs... All normal, turned the key again - and she sprung to life.
